John CORLETT
Rank:
Number:
Unit: OTHER RGT
Date of Death:
Age:
Cemetery:

The name of John Corlett is inscribed on the Heaton Mersey War Memorial. He is probably the same man as the J Corlett included amongst the names on the Stockport Memorial, at the Art Gallery, amongst those serving with “Other regiments” (usually indicating a county Regiment form outside the north west).

Although the War Graves Commission commemorates a number of men with this name and initial, none appear to have a local connection and all other attempts to identify his death have been unsuccessful.

The 1901 Census records the family living at 19 Poplar Street, Heaton Mersey. 49 year old Alexander Corlett was a police constable and was married to Elizabeth. They had two children – Gertrude, then 11 and John, 9. Nothing further is known.
