Alfred COXSON
Rank: Private
Number: 10237
Unit: 11th Battalion CHESHIRE REGIMENT
Date of Death: 4 January 1917
Age:
Cemetery: Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord, France

Alfred was born in the parish of Christ Church, Heaton Norris, Stockport and enlisted in the town. Nothing else is known about his personal life. His service number indicates he was a very early volunteer for the army, joining in August 1914, within a few days of war being declared.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission wrongly spells his name as Coxon and it notes, unusually, that he served in the army under the name of Cox.

Military records record that he "died", usually meaning that he died from natural causes (as opposed to "died of wounds".
