Rank: Private
Number: 266339
Unit: 16th Battalion CHESHIRE REGIMENT
Date of Death: 22 October 1917
Age: 28
Cemetery: Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, Belgium

Thomas had been born in Wrexham, the son of Martha Davies and the late William Davies. After the war, Mrs Davies was living at 51 Short Street, Heaton Norris and this is believed to have been Thomas' home before he enlisted.

Records at the National Archives confirm that Thomas only served with the above service number. This suggests, that he did not enlist until after January 1917 (when the six-digit numbers were introduced). The number is consistent with him originally joining the 6th Battalion (Territorial) and subsequently transferring to the 16th Battalion. It is, perhaps, reasonable to assume that his training was with the 6th, but he went on active service direct to the 16th.

He was killed in an attack described here and, as with many Cheshires killed that day, he has no known grave.
