Joseph's father, also called Joseph, had died by the time the War Graves Commission collated its information in the early 1920s. His mother, Ann, still lived at the family home at 27 Park Street, Stockport.

He worked at Robinson's tobacco works on St Petersgate and enlisted at Stockport, probably in March 1916 (based on his service number). Click here for details of the fighting in which he was killed. Like so many others, Joseph has no known grave.
