Rank: Private
Number: 306808
Date of Death: 11 November 1918
Age: 39
Cemetery: Stockport Borough Cemetery

James died, of natural causes, on the day the Armistice was signed. As far as can be established, he never served abroad, although he had enlisted quite early in the War into the Royal Engineers (service number 23137) before a transfer to the Tank Corps. It is possible that he had technical trade skills, perhaps as a mechanic, and was involved in the maintenance of the tanks.

He enlisted in Stockport and his widow is known to have been living at 25 Short Street, Heaton Norris, in the early 1920s.
