Robert Baiky FENNA
Rank: Private
Number: 15106
Unit: 1/6th Battalion CHESHIRE REGIMENT
Date of Death: 13 November 1916
Age: 27
Cemetery: Connaught Cemetery, Thiepval, Somme, France

Bob Fenna had been born in Bredbury. By the time of the 1901 Census, the family had moved to Alderley Edge. This was probably due to his father's (Harry) work as a police constable. Harry was then aged 37 and was married to Sarah Ann, then 40. The Census records that Robert, at 11, was the eldest of four children. The others were Nellie (10), William (6) and Philip (1).

Later, Harry and Sarah had moved to Hazel Grove. Bob had married Dora and they lived at 30 Chapel Street in the village.

Bob's original service number, 5206, confirms that he was not an early recruit to the army, when he enlisted at Stockport. He was killed in the Battalion's first major attack described here.

More information about Bob can be found in the book "Hazel grove to Armageddon" by John Eaton.
