Date of Death:

This name is inscribed on the Stockport War Memorial under those who served with the Cheshire Regiment. There is no record in the National Archives on-line "medal entitlement" database of anyone called Flower serving overseas with that Regiment during the war.

It is possible that there was a man who did not see active service and who has been commemorated on the Memorial.

It is, however, much more likely that there has been an error when names were sought for inclusion on the Memorial and, in this case there has been duplication. He was probably Alfred James Flower who is also commemorated on the Memorial as serving with a Lancashire Regiment. This man was killed on 31 July 1917 whilst with the South Lancashire Regiment.  It is probable that his name was submitted twice, perhaps by different groups of friends or family, one group making an assumption that he served with the local Cheshire Regiment.
