It has not been possible to identify this man whose name is inscribed on the Stockport War Memorial as serving with the Cheshire Regiment. His name appears at the bottom of the panels, out of alphabetical sequence and is, clearly, an addition to the names originally submitted.

His name dos not appear in the records of the Regiment or those of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. It has, also, not been possible to identify his name in the National Archives on-line "medal entitlement" database, suggesting that he never went overseas on active service, although that search is hampered by the lack of a first name.  This suggests that, whilst he may have joined the Regiment, this was probably towards the end of the war and he probably died, from natural causes, after its end. No doubt, his family wanted his willingness to serve to be recognised by inclusion on the list of the town's dead.
