Tom FRITH
Rank: Lance Corporal (Acting Corporal)
Number: 265649
Unit: 1/6th Battalion CHESHIRE REGIMENT
Date of Death: 31 July 1917
Age: 29
Cemetery: Menin Gate Memorial, Ieper, Belgium

Tom had been born in Derby, but the family had moved to Edgeley, Stockport. By the time, the Imperial War Graves Commission was collating casualty information, Tom's father, William, had died, but his mother was living at 11 St Matthew's Terrace.

Tom had married Annie. It is not known where they lived but after the war, she was at 24 Hart Street, Altrincham. It's possible she had not been there too long, as Tom is not commemorated on any memorial in that area.

His originals ervice number, 2413, suggest he was probably a pre-war meber of the Territorials and would have been mobilised when war was declared in August 1914. Details of the battalion's early service are here. Tom was killed on the first day of the Third Battle of Ypres. An account of the attack can be read here.
