Thomas GOODIER
Rank: Lance Corporal
Number: 4878
Unit: 20th Battalion ROYAL FUSILIERS
Date of Death: 20 July 1916
Age: 26
Cemetery: Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France

Amos Goodier and Emma Smith had married in the Stockport area in the 1870s and had at least seven children together. The family lived for many years at 31 Fox Street, Edgeley. Nothing is known of Thomas' early life but, before he joined the army, he was working as a teacher at Banks Lane School. As with many young middle class men, he joined one of the "Public School" Battalions of the Fusiliers and went overseas with them on 14 November 1915. He was killed in the attack described here.
