Frank GORST
Rank: Private
Number: 12614
Unit: 9th Battalion CHESHIRE REGIMENT
Date of Death: 19 July 1917
Age: 23
Cemetery: Menin Gate Memorial, Ieper, Belgium

At the time of the 1901 Census, Frank's father, Charles Gorst was aged 42 and a publican. His mother, Eliza Jane was 38. Their address after the Great War was 119 Higher Hillgate, Stockport. It has not been possible to establish if this was the pub that Charles had been running several years before.

Nothing is known of Frank's private life until he enlisted into the army at Stockport. His service number indicates that he joined up in August or September 1914. After training, he will have gone overseas in the following July. Frank was killed during a tour of duty in the trenches described here.
